Active IQ sector-specific GDPR support

Posted on 30 Apr 18

The May 25, 2018 deadline for General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance is very close now and businesses across the EU, up-and-down the country and right across our sector should be getting final plans in place.

In effect, if your business abides by the Data Protection Act (DPA) you have the building blocks in place. However, GDPR is more exacting and will invite greater scrutiny regarding how businesses collect, use, share and store data.

Compared to the DPA, there are new elements to be incorporated and enhanced actions to be taken. At the very least, by May 25 you need to show you have a plan in place to safeguard you. Prioritising the key areas that need to be addressed first will also be helpful if you’re worried you may not be fully compliant by May 25.

The GDPR legislation is detailed and to the untrained eye can be confusing. It’s best to seek expert help and guidance from individuals or businesses who fully understand the implications of GDPR. While the regulations apply to all businesses that process personal and / or sensitive data, having sector-specific interpretations will also be helpful – if only to see the relevance of GDPR to your business model.

As part of the Active IQ Skills Hub, our Chief Medical Advisor, Dr. Dane Vishnubala is creating a podcast on May 31, 2018. Our Training Providers’ Guide to GDPR will include: an overview of GDPR, the changes and reasoning behind these and how to become compliant. Using practical examples for providers, this sector-specific session will give clear guidance followed by signposting and further resources.
