“I very much welcome the news that the Institute for Apprenticeships has announced today, that qualifications, such as technical certificates that show evidence of knowledge, will be considered in the future as part of an apprenticeship” says Jenny Patrickson, managing director at Active IQ.
“However, if this decision is to have any true value, it must be applied retrospectively by enabling relevant qualifications to be either mandated or recommended, as appropriate, within existing apprenticeship standards.
"Otherwise, we will have a completely unfair system whereby already approved apprenticeship standards won’t benefit from the inclusion of aligned technical qualifications as part of the apprenticeship journey,” warns Jenny. “I’m deeply frustrated by the delays and confusion experienced over the last couple of years. Now the decision appears to have been made, let’s get on with it as a priority to ensure retrospective recognition is applied without any further delay.”
