Posted on 15 Jun 18

In this month’s spotlight feature, we interview Andy Gilbert, Qualification Development Manager

Q. Tell us about your role at Active IQ, how long have you worked here and what you most enjoy?

A. I am a Qualification Development Manager at Active IQ and have worked here for just over 3 months. I really like the variety of the role, working on a range of exciting qualifications and products. I particularly enjoy working on the creation of new qualifications, as well as developing engaging teaching and learning resources materials which help support our centres deliver our products. I also love creating assessment materials.

Q. What advice can you give people who aspire to be where you are?

A. Work hard, use your initiative, keep trying and never give up.

Q. What did you want to be when you were growing up?

A. A football commentator, I would record my own commentaries of matches and play them back to my family. They loved it (honestly), but I’m still waiting for the call from Sky Sports.

Q. Tell us something we would never guess about you?

A. I am an occasional ‘actor’ – starring as Smee in a recent production of Peter Pan.

Q. What is the best advice you have ever been given?

A. You cannot be the best at everything, but you can be your best.

Q. Which exercise do you most enjoy?

A. I love running, it is great for clearing your head. I have recently completed my sixth half marathon, doing the full 26 miles is my next challenge.

Q. Any hidden talents?

A. I’m a competitive Scrabble player, regularly scoring 7 letter words!

Q. How would you describe yourself in three words?

A. Handsome, hilarious and honest… or more accurately – inquisitive, kind and positive.
