As many learners and operators within the industry have identified, there is an increasing need for a structured pathway to professional management roles within the physical activity sector. There is a distinct lack of management experience among gym instructors and personal trainers and yet, 38.5% of personal trainers aspire to become a manager in the fitness industry, according to Love Recruitment.

Active IQ is constantly analysing the market and exploring how we can better support learners across the country through our qualifications. In response to this skills gap, we have teamed up with one of the UK’s foremost provider of education and learning and development solutions in the health and physical activity sector, Future Fit, to develop two new management qualifications to elevate the professionalism of the sector.

Through this partnership, we are proud of the development so far, and are pleased to share that both qualifications will be available later this year.

Building a Strong Foundation: The Active IQ Level 3 Award in Principles of Management

The first of these innovative qualifications is the Active IQ Level 3 Award in the Principles of Management, which will be launched later this year. Designed to provide learners with the essential knowledge and understanding of management principles, this qualification will help to develop individuals’ decision-making, leadership, and inclusion skills to best prepare them for managerial roles within the sector.

Expanding Horizons: The Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Management and Business

Our second qualification is the Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Management and Business which builds upon the foundation of the Level 3 Award. Delving into a broad range of topics including innovation, budgeting and recruitment, this qualification will provide the key additional understanding of critical areas that will allow learners to develop their roles even further. Both qualifications are the first of their kind, providing relevant and practical skills that directly improve the success rate for learners.

Retaining Talent for the Future

With around 50 managers enrolled, these qualifications have the potential to impact as many as 500-800 individuals within the physical activity sector. Upcoming plans include rolling out these qualifications nationwide, as we explore potential opportunities alongside Future Fit to offer this bespoke training to health and wellness organisations internationally.

During a time when the trend of becoming an 'accidental manager' is increasing in our sector, our qualifications are more relevant than ever to make sure these individuals are recognised and offered opportunities to expand their skill set. As the largest course provider in the UK, we are proud that our partnership with Future Fit is paving the way for better career pathways in the future.
