As any parent knows, results season can be an incredibly tense time. The anticipation, the long wait, and the uncertainty about what comes next can weigh heavily on families. Having been through it herself, Lisa understands the mix of emotions - from pride in hard work achieved, to the worry of “what happens if things don’t go to plan.”
That’s why this blog not only celebrates the success of the recent vocational and technical qualification results but also offers reassurance and guidance. For those exploring opportunities in sport, leisure, fitness, and wellbeing, there are exciting and supportive pathways available to help young people thrive - whatever their exam results may look like.
Celebrating growth: VTQ Results highlight strong future for sport, leisure and wellbeing
The latest release of Vocational and Technical Qualification (VTQ) results represents another important moment for skills development in the UK. A total of 360,545 results were issued across nine sector subject areas, showcasing the scale and diversity of learners choosing practical, skills-based education as their route into further study or employment.
A strong year for Tech Awards and certificates
This year’s data highlights the continued success of Tech Awards, with an impressive 348,441 results awarded. Now in only their second year of being certificated, these qualifications are already proving to be a cornerstone of vocational learning at Key Stage 4, providing learners with a real alternative to traditional routes.
Alongside these, 12,104 Tech Certificates were awarded, further underlining the variety of pathways available for young people preparing for the world of work or further education.
Sport, leisure, and recreation leading the way
Perhaps the most exciting news for our sector is that sport, leisure, and recreation has emerged as the most popular sector subject area. This is a powerful endorsement of the importance of physical activity, wellbeing, and active lifestyles in education and in wider society.
It reflects a growing recognition that careers in sport and leisure are not only personally rewarding but also play a vital role in supporting public health, social inclusion, and community development.
High achievement across the board
Achievement at the top level was also strong, with 14,347 learners (4%) achieving the top grade. This demonstrates both the capability of learners and the commitment of schools, colleges, and training providers in raising standards and supporting excellence.
The figures underline the fact that VTQs are not simply an “alternative route but a rigorous, high-quality pathway that prepares young people with knowledge, skills, and experience.
Building the future workforce
With over 360,000 results issued, the picture is clear: more learners are recognising the value of vocational and technical education. For the sport, leisure and wellbeing sector, this represents a growing talent pipeline at a time when the demand for skilled professionals is higher than ever. Whether it’s in coaching, personal training, facility management, sports science, or community wellbeing, these learners are taking their first steps into careers that make a genuine difference to people’s lives.
The increased uptake also reflects wider trends in the UK economy. According to industry reports, the sport, leisure and fitness sector is worth billions annually and supports hundreds of thousands of jobs. As the government and local authorities place greater emphasis on improving population health and tackling inactivity, the need for qualified professionals in this space will only continue to grow.
A positive sign for the sector’s future
As a leading awarding organisation in the sport, leisure, wellbeing and fitness sector, we welcome these results as a hugely positive sign. They show that young people are inspired by the opportunities our sector provides, and that they see vocational education as a credible and respected route into employment or further higher study.
We also recognise the hard work of the educators and training providers who make these outcomes possible. Their dedication ensures that learners are not only successful in their studies but also prepared with the skills, resilience, and passion to thrive in the world of work.
